Privacy
Policy
Purpose
The protection of our members’ privacy and the safekeeping
of confidential information is of utmost concern to the Credit Union.
It is the Credit Union’s intent to comply with all applicable
laws and regulations concerning the treatment of both member and
non-member information, and educate our members as to their privacy
rights under law. This policy outlines the purposes for which member
information will be collected and released outside of the Credit
Union.
Information Collected
The Credit Union will only collect that information necessary to
establish an on-going relationship with members and joint account
holders. Information on an individual member may be collected from
a variety of sources, including the member’s signature card,
loan application, and credit bureaus. The Credit Union will take
reasonable precautions to protect the accuracy and reliability of
member information.
Information Shared with Affiliates and Third Parties
The Credit Union will not sell nonpublic personal information on
its members to any third party. The Credit Union may disclose nonpublic
personal information about an individual member or members with
member consent, in order to effect a transaction, to protect the
Credit Union’s interests, or for other purposes permitted
by law and regulation. (See attachment for a complete list of third
party relationships and the purpose for which information will be
released.)
Third Party Privacy Standards
The Credit Union will only disclose nonpublic personal information
about its members to affiliates and third parties who demonstrate
a consistent commitment to the protection of the confidentiality
of member information, and who have adopted privacy policies comparable
to those adopted by the Credit Union.
Patriot Act
In accordance with Section 326 of the USA Patriot Act of 2001,
which requires the Grange Mutual Employees Credit Union to help
the government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering
activities, Grange Mutual Employees Credit Union is required to
obtain basic identifying information from you and verify that information
when you open a new account.
This means the Grange Mutual Employees Credit Union staff will
ask you for some basic information such as your name, address, date
of birth, and other information designed to help us identify you.
Grange Mutual Employees Credit Union staff will also ask to see
documents identifying you, such as social security card, driver’s
license, passport, and /or some other government-issued document.
In some cases, identification will be requested for those individuals
conducting business with Grange Mutual Employees Credit Union prior
to the effective date of the member identification requirements.
This is because original documentation was not obtained with the
opening of the account or Grange Mutual Employees Credit Union is
unable to form a reasonable belief that it knows the true identity
of the existing account holder.
In all cases, protection of our member’s identity and confidentiality
is the Credit Union’s pledge to you. Grange Mutual Employees
Credit Union appreciates your patience and understanding as we all
do our part in complying with the new account identification procedures
required by the federal USA Patriot Act of 2001.
Security and Confidentiality
As part of the Credit Union’s Commitment to protect the confidentiality
of member account information, the Credit Union will establish procedures
for periodically training staff on the importance of member privacy
and the Credit Union’s privacy policy. Staff will only be
permitted to access member account information when necessary for
business reasons. Finally, the Credit Union will establish appropriate
security standards to protect against unauthorized access to member
information.
Availability of Policy
The Credit Union will make this policy available to any consumer
requesting it. The policy will also be posted on the Grange Intranet.
